| Children and Young People PDS Committee | The Children and Young People PDS Committee examines Executive decisions and develops and reviews policy on the Council's children and young people functions. These policies include the development of various plans, including the Education Development Plan, and working with partner organisations and groups. The Committee will also make recommendations on Best Value reviews and the performance monitoring of functions within the responsibility of the Children and Young People Portfolio. |

| Children and Young People Portfolio | The Portfolio Holder for Children and Young People is a Member of the Executive and decides on matters relating to:
* the Council’s responsibilities as an education authority;

* leisure and cultural opportunities for children and young people eg play, parks, sport and the arts;
* services to keep children safe on the road;
* social work for children and young persons, children with special needs, fostering and adoption and family support services.

| Development Control Committee | The Development Control Committee deals with the exercise of the Council's powers in relation to:
* planning and conservation;
* Unitary Development Plan - where it recommends the Plan to the Executive;
* highways use and regulation;
* common land and village greens.
There are four plans sub-committees, meeting on a fortnightly basis, which administer the Council's responsibilities as a local planning authority and in relation to building control matters. Some decisions on these issues are delegated to appropriate officers. |

| Executive | The Executive has nine Members and is the Council’s main decision making body, it either makes decisions itself or six of its Members who hold Portfolios decide on matters relating to specialist areas. The Portfolios cover:

* Resources;
* Public Protection and Safety.
By law the Executive cannot take all Council decisions, other matters will be decided elsewhere principally by the Development Control Committee and the General Purposes and Licensing Committee.

| General Purposes and Licensing Committee | The General Purposes and Licensing Committee is responsible for the following non-Executive functions of the Council:

* complaint procedures;
* Member appointments;

| Joint Health Scrutiny Committee - Pan London | The London boroughs have set up a joint committee to scrutinise the proposals for changes in health services across London outlined inProfessor Lord Ara Darzi's report "Healthcare for London - A Framework for Action". Membership consists of one councillor from each borough. |

| Joint Health Scrutiny Committee - S.E. London | "A Picture of Health" is the NHS programme for updating health services in South East London. Health scrutiny committees from the boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark have joined together to set up a joint committee to scrutinise these proposals. Membership is made up of two councillors from each of the six boroughs. |

| Local Joint Consultative Committee | The Local Joint Consultative Committee enables regular consultation and discussion to take place between the local authority and its employees. | Local Strategic Partnership | Created in 2003, the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) is a broad-based partnership of local organisations representing the views of residents, and the public, private and voluntary sectors of Bromley. The Committee is also involved in Best Value reviews and the performance monitoring of services which are within the remit of the Renewal and Recreation Portfolio. |

| Schools Forum | The purpose of the Schools Forum is to advise the Authority on matters relating to schools budgets. Membership is made up as follows:
10 primary school representatives (5 head teachers and 5 governors);
8 secondary school representatives (4 head teachers and 4 governors);
1 special school representative (either a head teacher or a governor); and
4 non-school representatives: 1 each from the Church of England and Roman Catholic Diocescan bodies; 1 representing the Early Years and Childcare Partnership; and 1 representative of the Joint Teachers' Liaison Committee. |

| Standards Committee | The Standards Committee promotes and maintains a high standard of conduct by Bromley councillors and co-opted members. It has a membership of seven, four of whom are persons independent of the Council.
The Chairman of this Committee is one of the independent members.
